Stepping Out
Mon 31st May 2010 - Sat 5th June 2010
Location: The Milton Keynes Theatre Starring Brian Capron and Anita Harris
In a dusty church hall, ex-professional dancer Mavis Turner holds her weekly tap class. Every Thursday, in stumbles her well-intentioned but not overly talented troupe - the awkward but hugely enthusiastic Lynne, snooty Vera, streetwise Maxine and the rest of the group - all brought together to dance as if no one is watching, and hopefully no-one ever will! That’s until they're invited to perform at a charity gala. As disbelief is replaced by sheer terror, can this bunch of amateurs pull together and put on the performance of a lifetime?
Starring Brian Capron, known to millions for his award-winning portrayal of the sinister Richard Hillman in Coronation Street and Anita Harris, one of the brightest singing sensations of the ’60s who famously set pulses racing as Nurse Clarke in Carry On Doctor, this hilariously funny and heart-warming play proves that in dancing as in life, it’s always better to follow your own tune.
Running Time: 2 hours.

Enjoy
Mon 12th April 2010 - Sat 17th April 2010

An elderly couple are living in the last back-to-back in Leeds. They’re about to be re-housed in a brand new maisonette, complete with waste-disposal unit and non-slip vinyl flooring. As the bulldozers rumble and homes tumble, a way of life is fast disappearing. But that’s where sentiment bumps into surrealism. When a sociologist comes to observe Wilf and Connie’s daily life, things take a distinctly peculiar turn...
This comedy stars renowned actress Alison Steadman (Abigail’s Party, The Rise and Fall of Little Voice and, most recently, Gavin & Stacey)and David Troughton (starring roles with the RSC, Dr Who and A Very Peculiar Practice).
This is a delightful and unexpected side of Alan Bennett: gentle nostalgia and wicked satire in equal measure combine to make this an unmissable evening.
'Richly enjoyable' The Guardian
'The writing, as you’d expect, is pin-sharp' Daily Telegraph
'A piece ahead of its time, downroarious and heartily recommended' Independent
'The one-liners are as blackly hilarious as anything by Joe Orton' Financial Times

Whistle Down the Wind
Mon 26th April 2010 - Sat 1st May 2010
Location: Milton Keynes Theatre Starring G4’s Jonathan Ansell
This critically acclaimed production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jim Steinman’s Whistle Down the Wind is set to thrill audiences once again as it returns to Milton Keynes Theatre for one week only.
An extraordinary and uplifting tale about the transforming power of love, Whistle Down the Wind is based on the beloved sixties film starring Hayley Mills, and features numerous multi-award-winning songs, including Boyzone’s international hit, No Matter What.
The bright-eyed and youthful Swallow discovers a mysterious man hiding in her family’s barn. When she asks for his identity the first words he utters are, 'Jesus Christ'. While the rest of the townspeople are searching for a fugitive escaped from jail, Swallow gathers the town’s children who make a pact to protect their new found saviour from the cruelties of the outside world.
Truly inspiring, Whistle Down the Wind shows how powerful love can be when the innocence of childhood collides with the cynicism of the adult world.
Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Lyrics by Jim Steinman
Directed by Bill Kenwright

Oklahoma!
Tue 29th June 2010 - Sat 3rd July 2010
Location: The Milton Keynes Theatre Starring one of Britain's most popular leading ladies Marti Webb as Aunt Eller and BBC TV's Your Country Needs You runner up Mark Evans, (Spamalot, Wicked) as Curly.

Oklahoma! was more than a hit - it was the first real phenomenon in modern Broadway history. Smashing all Broadway box office records when it opened in 1943, it was the first collaboration between Rodgers and Hammerstein - the legendary team who went on to create Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I and The Sound of Music.
Set on America's Western Frontier, against a background of conflict between farmers and cattlemen, Oklahoma! perfectly integrates song, dance and story to tell the tale of farm girl Laurey and the two rivals for her affections, happy go-lucky cowboy Curly and the sinister farm hand Jud.
Famously, the show opens with 'Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin' and contains a sumptuous and rousing score full of wonderful songs such as The Surrey with The Fringe on Top, People Will Say We're in Love, Many a New Day, I Can't Say No, and the final rousing chorus of Oklahoma – as the music soars the audience is carried along on the emotional journey of one of the most famous love stories in musical history.

The Habit of Art
Tue 19th October 2010 - Sat 23rd October 2010
After sell-out success in London, Alan Bennett's latest smash-hit play comes to Glasgow.
Oxford 1972. Benjamin Britten, sailing uncomfortably close to the wind with his new opera, Death in Venice, seeks advice from his former collaborator and friend, W H Auden. During this imagined meeting, their first for 25 years, they are observed and interrupted by, amongst others, their future biographer and a young man from the local bus station.
Deeply funny and thought-provoking, this new play reflects on growing old, on creativity and inspiration, and on persisting when all passion's spent: ultimately, on the habit of art.
Suitable for ages 15+.

Glyndebourne On Tour 2010 Giovanni / Cenerentola / Poppea
Tue 9th November 2010 - Sat 13th November 2010
Location: The Milton Keynes Theatre La Cenerentola by Gioachino Rossini. Sung in Italian with English supertitles.
Rossini's take on the Cinderella story is no simplistic fairy tale. There's no pumpkin coach and no glass slipper, and in place of a fairy godmother there’s a wise old philosopher who wants his handsome Prince to marry not just the fairest of them all but also the best and the kindest. Yet, while reason and realism prevail, there's no shortage of magical enchantment in Rossini's miraculous score, which happily marries high comedy and heartfelt emotion, before climaxing with one of the most dazzling coloratura showpieces in all bel canto opera.
The critics adored Sir Peter Hall's 2005 Festival staging: 'This is a performance that meets the Glyndebourne gold standard … understated, sensitive and thus deeply pleasurable' (The Daily Telegraph); 'sheer entertainment kissed by genius' (The Mail on Sunday). For this revival, we welcome back the stylish Spanish maestro Enrique Mazzola, conductor of L'elisir d’amore on the 2007 Tour.

The Merry Wives of Windsor
Tue 16th November 2010 - Sat 20th November 2010
Location: The Milton Keynes Theatre Starring Christopher Benjamin, Serena Evans & Sarah Woodward
Following its highly acclaimed, sell-out run at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, The Merry Wives of Windsor comes to a theatre near you for one week only as part of the Globe's first ever large-scale UK tour.
Imagining that Mistress Ford and Mistress Page have each fallen for him, the fat knight Sir John Falstaff decides to seduce them both, as much for their husbands' money as for their personal charms. Wise to the old rogue’s tricks, the women turn the tables on him with a series of humiliating assignations and a very damp, extremely smelly laundry basket.
Gutsy, colloquial and bustling with vivid characters, Shakespeare's hilarious and brilliantly constructed farce gave birth to a tradition that reaches down to the modern TV sitcom. Christopher Benjamin plays the irresistibly lovable Falstaff, Serena Evans and Sarah Woodward join him as the merry wives and Andrew Havill as Ford.

Matthew Bourne's Cinderella
Tue 22nd February 2011 - Sat 26th February 2011
Location: The Milton Keynes Theatre London 1940… The Blackout… a siren sounds...
New Adventures' new production of Cinderella is a thrilling and evocative journey through London during the Second World War. Matthew Bourne's interpretation of Prokofiev's haunting score has, at its heart, a true wartime romance. A chance meeting results in a magical night for Cinderella and her dashing young RAF pilot, together just long enough to fall in love before being parted by the horrors of the Blitz.
First seen in the West End in 1997, but now completely revised, this brand new production is created to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the London Blitz. It features design by Lez Brotherston who won an Olivier award for his original designs, and new lighting designs by Neil Austin. Cinderella will be performed in Surround Sound, designed by Paul Groothius. Featuring a specially commissioned new recording of the score, New Adventures will create a cinematic experience, taking the audience into the heart of Prokofiev’s magnificent music and the sound world of war-torn London.
Cinderella is both a tribute and a testament to the spirit of London during a time when every second counted and lives were changed forever. Bourne's vivid storytelling has never been more heart-stopping and touching, creating a unique and unforgettable depiction of a familiar and beloved fable.
